Beads collected in Africa
African trade beads, African beads. Most of the beads shown on these pages were collected in Africa. Trade glass beads were made in Europe (Venice, Germany, etc.) and were used by Europeans as currency for trade with Africa from 17th to early 20th century. We have recently added to this collection a series of new "Tibetan" Dzi beads, probably made in China and a series of gemstones mined in Africa.
